Safeguarding children

This is, in general terms, an all encompassing title relating to the work carried out by those who work with or whose duty it is to protect children. However, it is everyone's responsibility to safeguard children and there are specific levels of training required by those who have varying degrees of responsibility for children.

A child in law is deemed to be anyone under the age of 18 years old. There are four main categories of child abuse and these are: Physical, Sexual, Emotional and Neglect. Child abuse investigation is carried out within a multi-agency arena with clearly defined roles and responsibilities for the statutory organisations and professionals. The safeguarding roles and responsibilities of those working or volunteering, whose work brings them into contact with children can seem daunting or confusing.

The best way to ensure that children are protected by best possible means is to ensure that all those working with children are properly trained and adhere to the guidelines put in place.  With CPT’s training packages the correct measures are put in place to ensure safeguarding is an easily managed process where children are far more likely to benefit from the advantage of trained professionals. Protecting children is a fundamental responsibility yet we hear of so many cases of abuse and where individuals or organisations have failed the child in question, often with fatal consequences.

How we can help

CPT provide safeguarding training to meet the individual needs and requirements of those working with children.  Some professions or volunteers require mandatory training in safeguarding and others may require an overview or familiarisation.  There are also many concerned parents and carers who require guidance with online dangers, social media, cyber bullying, harassment or sexual harassment by various mobile and internet apps. The training also includes ways to identify indicators of potential abuse including sexual, physical, emotional and neglect.
